BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - THE PROMISE (LIVE)

I’m citing myself on this one because I just posted another version of this song on Facebook yesterday, but it seems appropriate to start my tumbln’ life with it as well.

Much hype is being made of the re-issue of what I’ll go down fighting for as best Bruce Springsteen record, Darkness on the Edge of Town and there’s good reason for it if only for including a few different studio versions of outtake, “The Promise.” Real nerds’ll know a then contempo-version of this song  showed up on 90s comp, 18 Tracks, which most of those same nerds’ll know was a distillation of the mostly massively dissappointing 4cd boxset, Tracks, from earlier in the decade. Somehow, it didn’t make the cut on the original release of Darkness which I can only imagine was because it would have made “Racing In The Street” only disputably the best Springsteen song ever. This live version is pretty awesome and heartbreaking and worth a listen.
