BEAVIS & BUTTHEAD on PAVEMENT’S “RATTLED BY THE RUSH”
I’d be interested to hear from folks who have revisited MTV’s Beavis & Butthead series within the past 4 or 5 years. I thought for sure it’d be a relic of a bygone youth for me. That there would be no way there would be any value to it beyond nostalgia. But if this clip is any indication, this show might not only be actually really funny but it may also provide some real critical insight into sub-popular music from the early 90s. Comments like “they need to try harder,” in reference to Pavement’s self-conscious slack-rock, not only sound funnier some 15+ years later but also fairly incisive.
If you’re up for it, their take on Radiohead’s “Creep” is also awesome and worth a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=It6VWk1yT5o&feature=fvw
Also, their desciption of Pavement’s “Cut Your Hair” video as being “a buncha white guys and white music” also makes it worth noting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPxbBh7kbdw
